Ph.D. (Tohoku University)

After earning my master’s degree from Kobe University, I joined the R&D laboratories of a telecommunications company, where I engaged in research and development in cybersecurity. In 2009, while working at the company, I completed my doctoral studies at Tohoku University and received my Ph.D. in Information Science. From 2010 to 2011, I was a Visiting Researcher at Carnegie Mellon University (USA).

Since 2022, I have served as a Professor at the Center for Mathematics and Data Science (CMDS), Kobe University, where I have led the university’s educational program certified by MEXT and the Mathematical, Data Science, and AI Education Program (MDASH). Under my leadership, the program was accredited by MEXT at the Literacy-Level Plus and Advanced Literacy-Level Plus, and the Literacy-level course was made mandatory to ensure that all undergraduate students complete this nationally recommended curriculum.

My research focuses on cryptographic protocols, network and cybersecurity, and usable security. At the telecommunications company, I developed an operator-grade system for detecting large-scale denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, overseeing the process from fundamental research through deployment and operation in commercial networks. In the field of web security, I initiated the WarpDrive (Web-based Attack Response with Practical and Deployable Research Initiative) project funded by NICT, which developed a user-participatory experimental environment. After the commissioned research phase, the project transitioned into NICT’s ongoing Co-Nexus program.
